Eleanor Brooks, nee Nevile, was married to the writer Jeremy Brooks and in 1953 they moved to Llanfrothen in North Wales (near Portmeirion). They remained based in North Wales, where Brooks’ work was “entirely concerned with nature, the look of nature .. to make the visual equivalent of a hymn of praise”.
Although Brooks sold many works over the years, she became best known for a multi-media travelling show “A Portrait of Mrs Spinks” which was shown in some 20 galleries in England and Wales from 1973-1983. This was revived at Silver Moon Gallery, Porthmadog in 2006. In addition to exhibitions in Welsh galleries, her work was also shown in London at mixed shows “Small is Beautiful” at Flowers Gallery in 2001 and 2007. The Museum of Modern Art, Wales holds one of Brooks’ works in its permanent collection.
