1914-1982

Martin Battersby was a painter and printmaker, whose early career flourished in stage design. As a painter Battersby specialised in trompe d’oeil and played a part in the revival of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, which he championed. He exhibited at Brook Street Gallery in 1948 and then later at the Redfern and Grosvenor Galleries and also in the United States. His final show was at Ebury Gallery, London in 1982. Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and Southampton Art Gallery hold his work.
