Paul BINNIE

1967-

Paul Binnie was born in Alloa, Scotland and studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1985-1990. Binnie then spent a couple of years in Paris before moving to Tokyo 1993-98. Binnie had in the early 1990s fallen in love with Japanese traditional art and his time in Tokyo was spent learning about printmaking and woodcut techniques as well as painting. Despite success with the prints, particularly of Kabushi subjects, Binnie returned to the UK in 1998 to concentrate on his painting. His meticulous but stunning style clashed with certain modern art trends. However, the growing popularity of his prints in Japan has encouraged him to return to such techniques and his reputation continues to soar.
