Mihail Brunea is Vice-President of the Artists Union of the Republic of Moldova. Originally best known for his book illustrations, for which he won a Soviet Union as well as Moldovan prizes, Brunea had a radical change of tack in the 1990s and started producing 3-D work with allegorical themes. Using plaster and other mixed media, in a technique Brunea calls Dummy, his works more closely resemble paintings than sculpture.
Group exhibitions include The Experimental Art Exhibition Chisinau 1989, Moldovan Salon 1990 and 1994, Barcelona and Bratislava 1995 Book Illustration Exhibitions. He has had solo shows in Chisinau in 1988 and 200s, Harare in Zimbabwe 1990, Moscow 1991 and Rome in 1993. His work is held in museums in Moldova and Romania and private collections in USA, Russia, Germany, France, Argentina and elsewhere.
